On May 14, 2026, a meeting was held in the Foreign Literature Reading Room with Simon Mraz, Commissioner for Cultural Special Projects of Section V at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria (Bundesministerium für europäische und internationale Angelegenheiten).
During the event, students were provided with comprehensive information about the history of the Austrian Library, its role in strengthening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Austria, as well as the importance of ongoing cultural and educational activities.
In addition, participants were introduced to the content of the book “Mein Leben als kasachische Frau” by Professor Bakhyt Zhatkanbayevna Shpekbayeva, Academic Director of the Austrian Library, published in German with the support of the Ministry.
During the meeting, Simon Mraz emphasized the special importance of national culture in shaping Austria’s positive international image. In this regard, he noted that the development of cultural policy abroad is an important investment in the future.
He also highly appreciated the activities of the Austrian Library, which was first opened in Central Asia in 1997, and expressed his gratitude for the work being carried out.
