How to publish an article in Scopus in Russian?

Dear readers, it’s no secret that a publication in SCOPUS is like a nightmare for most scientists from post-Soviet countries. Not only is the structure of the description of the study not familiar to our thinking, but academic English, profile with its own terminology, whatever one may say, quite often becomes a stumbling block.

Considering that our readers are from different departments, in order to exclude the language component, we have prepared a list of journals from the Scopus database for the summer-autumn of 2017, which accept articles in Russian:

How to write and publish a research article for an international peer-reviewed journal

(Scopus, EBSCO, DOAJ, Thomson Reuters)

Writing a scientific article is a process that requires special training. We’ve put together general guidelines to help you make this process more efficient.

Responsibility of the author and ethics of publication

Before you start, please make sure that your work fully meets the requirements:

1. Scientific work is not in the process of being reviewed by another journal.

2. The scientific work has not been published earlier, in a similar form, in whole or in part.

3. The article is completely original, does not contain plagiarism, and all necessary sources are duly marked in the list of used literature.

4. All necessary permissions (including co-authors) have been obtained.

5. All authors are included in the list of authors

6. All authors are informed that a scientific work is submitted to a specific journal.

7. All required royalties (if required) have been paid.

8. The text of the scientific work does not contain defamatory or unlawful information and statements.

Journal selection

Knowing which magazine is right for you will help you better prepare your work in the style that is most appropriate for the magazine’s audience. Answer the questions below as you prepare an article for publication in a specific journal:

• Does the subject of your work correspond to the goals and objectives of the journal?

• Who is the editor? Is he competent enough in your subject area?

• Who is on the editorial board?

• Audience: how wide is your magazine? Have your colleagues published in this magazine?

• Does the journal belong to any scientific community or university?

• Is the journal indexed in the Medline, Social Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Scopus, or any other reputable citation indexes?

• How is copyright compliance described?

• What are the open access publishing options (pay-per-view, subscription, free access)?

• How is the job submission process going?

Select the journal of the Higher Attestation Commission or Scopus to learn more about it>

 Preparing your scientific work

We recommend that authors refer to the author’s instructions and the current issue of the journal before commencing research preparation. Requirements may vary from journal to journal, and instructions to authors contain detailed information on:

• Article types and maximum number of characters

• Formats of articles and order of submission

• Styles and designs of articles, including language and link requirements

• Preparation of figures, tables and additional data

• Copyright, publication ethics and information on how to access articles.

Language and formulas in the article

For authors who are not native English speakers, we recommend using academic editing services to improve the quality of their work before submitting the article. The system of units in the formulas must correspond to the C system. When writing formulas, you should immediately focus on readers who speak English. This means that all abbreviations used in the article should be written immediately in English.

Images

Authors should provide high resolution images in separate files. Images (pictures) embedded in a Word text document, as a rule, are not suitable for processing. The valid file formats are TIFF, JPEG and EPS. When submitting files in EPS format, make sure all fonts are embedded. Responsibility for the use of the images remains with the author. For details on image requirements please refer to the individual magazine pages.

Multimedia and additional materials

Additional materials give the author the opportunity to improve the perception of his work, but cannot be embedded in the text of the article (audio or video materials, animation, software, etc.). Information about the requirements for additional materials is indicated on the pages of a particular journal, in the sections of the requirements for articles.

Article structure (outline)

A correctly written scientific article consists of several required blocks. Make sure you have them in your work.

The structure of the article is not limited only to the indicated blocks, but also to other elements (read more below).

Elements and structure of the article Authors should check the requirements of a particular journal for any additional sections required.

Headline: should be concise, precise and meaningful. Headlines are often used by search engines and search engines. They should contain words that readers can search for. Abbreviations and formulas should be avoided whenever possible.

2. Authors’ Names and Organization Affiliation: Completely include the name, organization affiliation (where the work was actually performed) and contact details for each of the authors. Highlight the last names and specify the double names of the authors. Include the authors’ affiliation with the organization and their contact details under the names.

3. Corresponding Author: Identify who will handle the correspondence during all stages of the peer review process and after publication. Enter your email address, postal address, and telephone number (including country and region codes). The named author is responsible for keeping the information provided up to date.

4. Annotation: Prepare a succinct statement of research objectives, work performed and conclusions. The abstract should be self-sufficient. Do not include general or reference information that should be included in the introduction, abbreviations, or references. Include keywords from your title and subject area in your annotation to improve your online searches.

5. Keywords: Include keywords for indexing and online searches. Keywords should describe the content of the article and include key phrases from the subject area. Avoid general terms such as ‘corrosion’, ‘neurological’ and ‘onomastics’.

6. List of Symbols: Provide a list of symbols that may be useful to the reader.

7. Introduction: Summarize your existing knowledge of the topic, including a literature review of previous work in the industry, along with a statement of purpose and motivation for writing the work.

8. Experimental Methods: If necessary, describe the methods used in sufficient detail to allow others to reproduce the work. If a detailed description is provided in a link, readers should be able to grasp the essence of the method’s principles without referring to other sources. A complete detailed description of the materials and equipment used must be provided.

9. Results and discussion: Please provide a summary of the results or separately. Authors should provide critical discussion and interpret, not simply describe, the results obtained. Images should be used to illustrate the results; however, try not to duplicate information in tables and figures. Additional information can be provided in the form of supporting material. Include standard errors or error strings as needed.

10. Conclusions: Please provide a short summary of your research. Conclusions should not contain information not found elsewhere in the manuscript.

11. Acknowledgments: Please provide details of the individuals and organizations that contributed to the work, as well as the information requested by the funding authorities. The Acknowledgments section may also include copyright information that is too long to be included in any other section of the manuscript, as well as other information (such as the fact that the manuscript is based on materials from a lecture or a conference presentation).

12. Appendices: use them to provide additional information, place tables, or make mathematical conclusions. Links in attachments should be combined by links placed in the main text of the article in one list. Tables and figures should be numbered: A1, A2, A3 …

13.References: Provide a complete list of cited literary sources in a manuscript created specifically for the circle of readers of the journal. Format links to match the style of the magazine.

14. Figure and table captions: Make sure each figure or table is labeled. Please include signatures separately at the end of the manuscript. The signature should include a short title (not in the figure itself) and a description. Try to place in the picture the minimum amount of text necessary to decipher all the symbols and abbreviations used.

15. Pictures: Attach separate high resolution files for each of the pictures. Detailed information on preparing images is available in the individual journal instructions for authors. Do not embed pictures in the text of the manuscript. If a drawing is reproduced or based on materials from another work, this must be clearly indicated in the caption, and an appropriate link must be provided along with any other indications of authorship, as may be required by the copyright holder. For more information, please use our guide to obtaining permits.

16.Tables: Number tables sequentially according to the order in which they appear in the text. Avoid vertical rulers. Tables can be placed in the text or collected together at the end of the manuscript.

17. Supplementary material: Post supplementary material (eg datasets, models, animations or videos) that expands the content and relevance of the articles. Additional material is intended to substantiate the arguments put forward in the article, it should not contain links to any other work or contain discussions or conclusions that go beyond the content of the article. For details on the preparation, use, and submission of additional data, see the individual journal instructions for authors. Compliance with the above recommendations will allow you to prepare your article much more professionally for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
